CAP Award Programme grows by 38%

With the CAP Programme delivering real, verified ’added-value’ to it’s client services in 2011, the reputation of the scheme has spread with 2012 already seeing clients’ commitments to join the programme increase by 38%.

As a client from the West Midlands said ‘the Award (CAP Programme) provides you with the tools to establish processes and procedures which result in improvements’.

‘Participating in the CAP Award Programme encouraged team work across the disciplines to ensure the highest of standards are achieved. Attaining Gold status has boosted morale and staff self esteen’ were comments received from a Kent client.

In summarising, a client stated ‘this has proved an extremely beneficial scheme for out hospital – Go for Gold’.

2011 proved to be a very successful year for the CAP Programme. An overview of the headlines would be: -

ü The financial return on a client’s investment into the CAP Programme was in excess of 1:5 for 2011

ü Qualitative improvements averaged 12.6% across 2011

ü The CAP Programme was recognised as a valued contributor to the CQC Quality and Risk Profile (QRP) with submissions in Q3 and Q4 2011

Mater Private Hospital’s catering department excels

The Mater Private Hospital in Dublin gained the GOLD CAP AWARD in December 2011. The department scored consistently high across the assessment categories with the overall quality of the service shining through. Congratulations to the Catering Team at the Mater Private

Double Gold for Healthcare

GOLD CAP Awards were claimed by both the catering and housekeepingdepartments at Bon Secours Tralee. An impressive performance was delivered by both departments with their qualitative and financial ‘scores’ marking the achievement of GOLD across the CAP criteria. Across the scoring categories including food service / tasting, cleanliness, HACCP, staff development, infection control, ‘value for money’ and due diligence records, the two departments impressed during the assessment visit. The team is still looking to progress further with the CAP Action Plan providing some guidance and ‘tools of the trade’ to help. Importantly the hospital has shown what can be achieved both financially and qualitatively within the healthcare environment

Bishop’s Stortford College have the golden glow

Bishop’s Stortford College is celebrating the receipt of a CAP Award in recognition of the excellence of its catering department. Bishop’s Stortford College received the Gold ‘Continuous Advancement Programme’ or CAP Award and in turn became the first school in East Anglia to gain the Gold Award. In recognision of their achievement, the Catering Team were presented with their Award by the Headmaster at the School Assembly

Abbotsholme School strike GOLD

The Catering Department at Abbotsholme School have begun the new term in style. Having achieved the BRONZE CAP AWARD in 2010, the team backed themselves for this year’s assessment and went for the unannounced visit knowing that this was the only way to achieve the GOLD AWARD that they wanted. On the 14th September 2011, they achieved their goal and became the first School to achieve the GOLD CAP AWARD in the Greater Midlands. Congratulations to the team as they look to build on their score so as to achieve their next target in scoring 100%!!

Stafford Grammar School excel

In June, the Catering Department at Stafford Grammar School invited the CAP Assessment team to undertake an assessment of their service, practices and qualitative processes. With the visit being announced, the top award available was the SILVER. We are delighted to say that the department achieved this standard and have already set their sights on an un-announced visit in order to get GOLD

Blackrock Clinic achieve their ‘SILVER CAP’

The Blackrock Clinic has achieved their ‘SILVER CAP’ for their Catering Services. This is the highest CAP Award that can be achieved for an announced assessment. The department can be proud of their achievement and look to progress towards the attainment of a GOLD CAP via an un-announced assessment visit. With the JCI visits due shortly, the programme has provided a welcome boost to the Catering Department in terms of its preparation for this accreditation body and gives excellent evidence for the Blackrock Clinic’s progressive management of its Catering and Housekeeping Service as the Housekeeping Department achieved the cleaning BRONZE AWARD in January 2011.

CQC to use the CAP Award within their Quality and Risk Profiles

The CQC statement reads ‘Where available, information provided by the Provision Continuous Advancement Programme (the CAP Award) to CQC will be included in the Quality and Risk Profile that CQC holds for each registered provider. Quality and Risk Profiles are used by CQC staff to identify potential areas of compliance and non compliance with meeting the essential standards so that they can target frontline regulatory activity accordingly’.

Oakham School reach the peak

Oakham School’s Housekeeping Department achieved the highest CAP Award rating for an announced visit. The Silver Award was gained in early March. The Bursar commented ‘an excellent tool to enable expert and impartial identification of strengths and weaknesses, providing clear guidelines on areas for improvement’. The Gold CAP Award which can only be gained via an unannounced visit is clearly the staff’s goal now.
